The Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep (Ovis canadensis canadensis) is native to the Rocky Mountains in North America, including the state of Colorado. In this state, these sheep are commonly found in the mountain ranges, such as the Rocky Mountains, and they are well adapted to the cold and harsh conditions of these high elevations. They are known to live at elevations ranging from 6,000 to 14,000 feet. They have a stocky build and a thick woolly coat that helps them survive in cold, mountainous environments and are known to be expert climbers, prefering to stay on high and steep terrain, such as rocky ledges, to avoid predation.
